Warning: Illegal Fireworks
Warning for use of illegal fireworks and the unsafe discharge of firearms.
As the “4th of July” Independence Day approaches, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public that illegal fireworks and the unsafe discharge of firearms are dangerous and illegal in San Mateo County. The Sheriff’s Office will be deploying resources to specifically target and enforce these violations within the areas of the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Anyone possessing or using illegal fireworks or, discharging firearms can be fined and/or arrested.
This strict enforcement is to ensure the safety of the community as illegal fireworks and the unsafe discharge of firearms have been proven to cause injuries with adults, children and pets. Due to our current drought there is an increase of dry vegetation. The risk of starting fires and damaging property is very high. For those with pets, animals have very sensitive ears and can be extremely frightened or stressed during these times. If possible, keep them inside to reduce the risk of them getting injured or running loose.
“Safe and Sane” labeled fireworks are only allowed within specific areas in the Cities of San Bruno and Pacifica and are illegal in the rest of San Mateo County. Please contact your local city for specific information and local ordinances.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone in the community to have a safe and enjoyable “4th of July” Independence Day.
Please call 650-363-4911 to report non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies.
